Fibroadenoma
Fibroadenomas are the most common benign tumors of the breast. They are usually seen between the ages of 20 and 40, but can sometimes occur at older ages. They occur in 10% of the population.
They are easily palpable during examination because their edges are noticeably separated from the surrounding tissues, they are round or bean-like. Sometimes they can have more than one lobule (lump). They are easily palpable during examination due to their smooth surface, lack of adhesion to the surrounding tissues, and their mobile structure that can easily slide under the hand.
Easy palpability is not enough for an accurate diagnosis; the diagnosis of fibroadenoma is not a clinical diagnosis. For an accurate diagnosis, the mass must be removed or a sample must be taken with a needle biopsy and pathological analysis performed. In order to avoid making a wrong diagnosis, the “triple test” should be applied.
Even if the examination and radiological examination suggest that it is a fibroadenoma, it must be confirmed by biopsy.
